A "severe weather outlook" has been issued for the entire region between 2 p.m. and 10 p.. on Monday, June 26 throughout the I-95 corridor, specifically during the evening commute, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm is expected to move east throughout the day, with southern Maryland and DC getting the brunt of the inclement weather.
Officials caution that there could be damaging wind gusts and large hail in the area during the storm. There is also the threat of an isolated tornado or flash flood in some regions.
At the Bay Bridge, officials cautioned that there is the potential for delays during the evening rush due to the weather conditions.
"Be prepared for wind warnings, restrictions and the potential for temporary traffic holds at MDTA bridges.," they stated. "Any decision to hold traffic at a toll facility would be based upon current weather at a given facility."
"Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening with localized damaging wind gusts and large hail being the primary threats," according to the National Weather Service. "Please stay weather aware, and be ready to seek shelter if warnings are issued."
